Los Angeles, CA

Hi! I'm Laura. I work with folks from all walks of life who are looking to build (or re-build) their connection to themselves and others. My clients tend to struggle with anxiety, people-pleasing, self-worth, perfectionism, exploring their identities, attachment trauma, and relationship issues. I work within an intersectional perspective to cultivate a space that is inclusive and welcoming to all so my clients can feel safe to embrace vulnerability and explore themselves deeply. If you decide to work with me, we'll examine parts of your past, challenges in the present, and hopes for the future while honoring your intersecting identities and natural strengths. I'll hold space for you to cry, vent, make jokes, or swear — while helping you to deconstruct unhelpful patterns, dismantle perfectionism, set healthier boundaries, heal past wounds, and embrace your most authentic self. My approach is modern and eclectic, integrating EMDR, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and narrative techniques with psychodynamic, feminist, existential, and humanistic theories. This means I draw from multiple modalities to personalize your care based on your needs. Through both research-based techniques and being a real + approachable human, my goal is to help you find clarity and healing while creating meaningful and sustainable change.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with 15 years of experience treating adolescents and adults. My approach to psychotherapy is warm, empathic, and compassionate. I treat each individual professionally and with respect. I appreciate the uniqueness of each patient and emphasize listening closely and thoughtfully, as we all possess the ability to tell our story regarding our strengths and our challenges, even when we sometimes do not realize it. I strive to create a safe environment where you can feel open to express and explore your feelings and experiences, without judgment or emphasis on what is “right” or “wrong.” I believe that therapy is an opportunity to learn more about ourselves and to express our feelings freely, in an effort to learn new methods of dealing with problems, being in relationships, and pursuing our dreams. My private practice is largely informed by modern psychoanalytic theory. I provide individual, couple, family, and group psychotherapy. I integrate themes of social justice throughout my practice, and am particularly thoughtful about the role that various cultural identifications, and their intersection, play in mental health and treatment. I also provide education, consultation, and training to professionals and students. A central aspect of my clinical thinking focuses on the role of power, privilege, and cultural dominance. Knowledge, concepts, and meaning are not developed on a solely individual basis, but rather are created through coordination and communication with others. Language is fundamentally important – it is the most essential way in which we construct reality. Our psychological experiences, including emotions, thoughts, somatic/bodily sensations, are subsequently developed within this context. I view problems in living, therefore, as relational, contextual, interpretive, and situated within the dominant discourse, expression, response, and cultural norms.

I love working collaboratively with my clients to find a plan for mental wellness that is tailored to the individual. Each case presents a unique set of circumstances that cannot be fit into a one size fits all approach. While my primary area of expertise is on medication management, I do incorporate some holistic practices into my treatment plans. In addition to medication management, I use CBT, DBT, and Family Systems Therapy in my therapeutic approach. I typically work with clients with an array of mental health concerns ranging from depression and anxiety to bipolar disorders and schizophrenia. I have additional training in perinatal mental health and enjoy working with birthing persons in planning for pregnancy as well as managing mood symptoms during pregnancy and in the postpartum period.

Developmental trauma (experiences as we grow, including our family of origin) shapes how we see the world, sometimes unsafe and challenging to navigate. Our attachments are the foundations in which we trust or find conflict. Developmental trauma may manifest in the body as anxiety, stress, distress, relationship difficulties, depression and more. There is healing to be found here, to be understood and nourished. Well done on the first step in a journey toward wellness. The most important aspect of therapy is finding a person who makes you feel safe and heard. I look forward to collaborating. I have training and experience in working with trauma, family of origin/generational cycles, attachment disruptions, complicated grief and loss, sexuality, sex work and with LGBTQAI+ persons. I love working through emotions, trauma and somatic experiencing. I am Level I Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy trained. I enjoy working with and understanding folx from their perspective; I work with singles, couples, non-monogamous consensual relationships and families.
