College students I work best with are often balancing a lot at once and feeling overwhelmed trying to keep it all together. You might be dealing with anxiety, low motivation, relationship stress, or feeling unsure about your direction. On the outside, it can look like you are managing, but inside it feels heavy or exhausting. Many of the students I support are ready to understand themselves on a deeper level, even if they do not have all the answers yet. You may be tired of repeating the same patterns or feeling stuck in your thoughts. In our work together, we focus on building clarity, confidence, and practical tools so you can feel more in control of your life and decisions.

Life isn’t what you expected. Something happened. Something happened that you never imagined would happen to YOU and it threw all of your life plans off course. Or maybe you look in the mirror today and just don’t recognize the person you see. Either way, your life has taken a turn and you’re in territory you never prepared for, never anticipated. You feel lost, scared, and alone. Guess what? You’re not. I can help you process the unexpected, regain control of yourself, and move forward to create life-altering change and establish a reality that is probably better than you can visualize right now. All you have to do is reach out. Together we'll identify what isn't working for you anymore (maybe it never has). We’ll direct attention to the solutions - working together to create a treatment plan, a way forward, using a combination of evidence-based practices. You deserve specialized care. I can provide that along with a caring, non-judgmental, safe space to explore and grow. I provide video psychotherapy to people in CA and WI. Want a free 10 minute phone consultation? At the Heart is a community counseling center whose goal is to bridge the gap that exists in access to services and to help heal our community, families, and individuals. All members of our community need respect and acceptance. Our counselors provide a caring and non-judgemental environment for clients to get the support and encouragement they need, when they need it. We provide both traditional/secular counseling and Christian based counseling, determined by a client's preference. We meet our clients where they are at and work collaboratively to help each client achieve their individual goals. We have several different kinds of providers. We have a Peer or Lay Counseling Division which is an every day person that is passionate and has a heart for helping others, life experience, and has completed a 13 week (40 hour) counseling course through At the Heart. The course addresses depression, trauma, anxiety, suicidality, grief/loss, child abuse, domestic violence, addiction, and mindfulness. These providers could be nurses, teachers, stay at home parents, retirees, and so on. They have an open heart and a willingness to listen and encourage. We have a Professional Division which involves Trainees, Associates/Interns, and Pastors. Trainees are Graduate/Doctoral school students in the field of counseling that need to acquire hours towards graduation and licensure. Associate and Interns are Post-Masters/Doctoral Graduates that are accruing hours towards licensure in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or Professional Clinical Counseling. All of our counseling staff receive weekly case consultation and supervision by a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist that has special training in supervising non-licensed clinicians. Be assured, you will be provided with quality care and support. It is a team approach. Contact us today to speak with a scheduler who will match you with a counselor who is best suited to meet your needs.

I graduated from UMass Medical school and was trained in adult psychiatry at Cambridge Health Alliance, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. Prior to going to medical school I received a Masters in Teaching from Boston University and worked as a teacher. This unique background affects my approach to psychiatry. I believe that a good psychiatrist should work with you to help you learn about yourself and your mental health. I am trained in a variety of therapeutic styles including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), psychodynamic therapy, supportive therapy, and Gottman style couples/relationship therapy. During my time at CHA I worked extensively with the Gender and Sexuality Clinic to serve patients of diverse sexual and gender identities. I also co-lead a group therapy for individuals in polyamorous and non-monogamous relationships. I have taught at the American Psychiatric Association’s specialized rotation for HIV Psychiatry, including lectures on how to provide effective telepsychiatry, and I have presented at a national meeting on teaching providers how to better work with patients to prescribe medications. I am a licensed physician in Massachusetts, New York, and California. I offer in person appointments in Somerville, MA as well as secure telehealth appointments to those residing in Massachusetts, New York, and California. In addition to medication management I offer individual and relationship/couples therapy.

My name is Terry Alcántar Nelson and I am a licensed clinical social worker who has been providing counseling for over 25 years. After all this time, I still love my work and am passionate about helping people heal. Every day is a new opportunity for me to join with clients in healing past hurts, traumas, and relationships, and addressing current life stressors and painful experiences. I am privileged to do this work and hope to be doing it for many years to come. I am trained and have expertise in the following modalities: -Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)- a type of therapy that helps to examine negative thinking and long held beliefs which make us feel bad and stuck; it is modality that is particularly helpful for depression and anxiety -Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) which focuses on improving relationships by increasing emotional safety with loved ones, and takes into account past attachment injuries originating in childhood and current and/or past relationships -Mindfulness, which works on increasing our focus on the present by using breath, body and grounding techniques -Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which uses eye movements and other types of bilateral stimulation to process traumatic experiences and memories I see my role as a mental health provider as a guide to clients who are looking for a path to wholeness and healing. Working with with a therapist should be a collaborative process in which the client feels empowered with every session. I consider successful therapy to be one in which clients says that they feels shifts in behavior, feelings, and life circumstances. I am a proud Latina woman who was born and raised in a small town, but was transplanted many years ago to a big city and I can see the value in both experiences. I have worked with a vast array of ethnicities and cultures and feel comfortable with diversity. I am unique in that I am bicultural, bilingual and come to every client session ready to hold big emotions in compassionate ways. I know trauma and relationship injuries can make us feel very vulnerable and I want my clients to feel safe and emotionally held so that the work of healing brings peace and restorative experiences in all areas of life.
We grieve any time life changes directions, and even positive changes can bring about difficult feelings. You may be struggling with the death of a loved one, demands of school or work, adjusting to a new relationship, or considering the next chapters of your life. With experience in oncology, young adult parental loss, anticipatory loss, and sudden death, I provide you with support, insights, treatment, education, and guidance during times of transition and beyond. While some clients make the choice to pursue working with a therapist because of a specific life event or situation, others make the choice because of a desire for self-growth and a general improvement in well-being. Regardless of your reason, I welcome you to contact me. It's not easy to seek support. I'm easy-going, approachable, and genuinely want you to feel better. Send me a message and we can figure out how to make that happen.
